A run about Paris

I went to Paris for the first time a year ago. From that point forward, I was hooked. Between the food, green spaces, architecture, culture, and sites - it’s a runner’s paradise.

Here’s a list of my favorite places to run in the city:

Bois de Vincennes: If you only have time for one run, this is the place to prioritize. Find it on the city's eastern edge, as Paris’ largest park. Within the park are four lakes, several gardens, tons of green space & trails.

Parc de Buttes-Chaumont: This park is a beautiful escape from the city’s busyness. Rolling hills line the park leading you up to the Temple de la Sibylle. This is great for an evening run, as it stays lit, and you can see the Eiffel tower shining brightly while perched on its cliff.

Along the Seine: Between growing up in Minnesota and Chicago, I’m conditioned to love running along the water. Uninterrupted running space expands along the river taking you from one part of the city to the next.

Bois de Boulogne: You can enjoy this lush environment on the city’s western edge. Trails wind you through lakes, landscapes, a cascade, and various gardens dot the green space.

Canal St. Martin: Just shy of 5k, this canal reaches Northeast of Paris, connecting to the Seine. I’ve used this canal as a placeholder for many runs, guiding me to my final destination. It’s picturesque, with no short number of various cafes nearby to refuel your journey.

Montmartre: The largest hill in Paris leads you to Sacré-Cœur and a breathtaking city view. My first run in Paris brought me to this view, and it’ll hold a particular value indefinitely; plus, my favorite boulangerie is near the base, but you'll have to inquire for that information.

All in all, I love running in Paris. But really, I love vacation runs. I’m not as worried about pace or where I’m going; instead, I get to enjoy the journey. There’s never a wrong time to stop for an espresso or a pastry.

Bonne course!
